Fundraising for Defibrillators
Our Patient Advisory Group’s effort to increase funding for defibrillators in and around the village has received a boost by being included in TESCOs latest group of local causes in contention for a Community grant of £1500.
Shoppers can choose defibrillators (or two other worthy causes) to show their support by putting blue counters into the designated box. We have a 3 month window to achieve the most counters!
So, we would like to encourage everyone shopping at Tesco Monifieth to remember to grab a handful of counters before leaving the checkouts and put them in the appropriate slot! It's such a worthwhile cause...
About the Campaign
According to the British Heart Foundation, there are 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) a year requiring resuscitation by the emergency services. 20% of these occur in public places. However, only 1 in 10 people will survive an OHCA. This is not age dependent, 12 people under 35 die each week.
If a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of an OHCA, survival rate jumps from 6% to 74%.
Monifieth Medical Practice Patient Advisory Group have been working tirelessly for over a year now to place defibrillators in and around Monifieth.
